The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry, at the Assistant Professor level.
Position
Successful candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and research. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty are expected to develop a vigorous research program involving undergraduate and graduate (MS) students that attracts external funding and leads to refereed publications.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be able to teach lecture and laboratory courses in organic chemistry at the undergraduate and master’s level. Successful candidates will show promise in and a strong commitment to teaching, and have experience or a willingness to work with a highly diverse student population.
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry and post-doctoral or equivalent research experience.
- Research interests in all areas of organic and related chemistry will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates whose research could lead to cross-disciplinary collaboration with other faculty in chemistry, biochemistry, geology, biology, and/or other areas (see website, http://chemistry.fullerton.edu).
- Applicants must have the interest and ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Rank and Salary
The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track. Salary and startup allowance are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Chemical Education
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chemical Education at the Assistant Professor level.
Position
Successful candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and research. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in chemistry and/or biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels with an opportunity to teach graduate courses in the Science Education Program for the Master of Arts in Teaching Science (MAT-S) degree. Faculty are expected to develop a vigorous chemical education research program involving undergraduate and graduate (MS or MAT-S) students that attracts external funding and leads to refereed publications.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry/biochemistry or in chemical education; post-doctoral or equivalent research experience in chemical education is preferred. Research interests in all areas of chemical education will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement those of faculty in chemistry and biochemistry (see Web site, http://chemistry.fullerton.edu). A willingness to engage in collaborative research in related fields is desirable.
- Applicants must be able to teach lecture and laboratory courses in chemistry or biochemistry disciplines. Successful candidates will have some teaching experience; preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and master’s levels.

Graduate Teaching Associate (TA)
Class Code 2354
Positions The Department of Chemistry
and Biochemistry has a number of positions for Graduate Teaching
Associates each semester. A TA is a CSUF graduate student who
is appointed part-time, usually to teach credit-bearing laboratory
courses. Responsibility for a course may be vested in the TA under
the direct supervision of an appropriate faculty member.
Duties may include the following:
- providing classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction,
- preparing course materials, preparing and administering assignments
to students,
- administering examinations, grading student work and otherwise
assessing student performance, and determining course grades,
- holding scheduled office hours, and
- meeting the expectations of TAs for the specific course, as
established by the Department, supervising faculty member, and/or course
laboratory coordinator.
Participation in the Laboratory Safety Class offered by
the CSUF Research and Instructional Safety Office is required for all TA's
within the first two weeks of the academic term for continued
appointment.
Qualifications and Hiring Criteria*
- Completion of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree.
- Currently enrolled or admitted to a CSUF Master’s degree program
that is related to chemistry or biochemistry. (Students enrolled
in credential programs are not eligible for this position.)
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the course(s) to which the
individual is assigned.
- Familiarity with CSUF and Chemistry and Biochemistry Department
policies and procedures on field trips, Department vehicle use, and lab
safety is expected, where appropriate.
- Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment.
- Ability to instruct and evaluate students effectively.
- For the initial appointment, evidence of satisfactory achievement in
previous academic work (transcripts and/or letters of recommendation),
and for reappointment, agreement by research adviser.

Appointment Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Graduate
Teaching Associates are hired in Range A of Class Code 2354. For
subsequent appointment, the graduate student must be in good standing, as
defined by the University and Department, and show evidence of
satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree. In addition,
if previously appointed as a Chemistry and Biochemistry TA and/or GA, the
student’s performance must have been evaluated as satisfactory, with
re-hiring recommended.

Positions The Department of Chemistry
and Biochemistry has a number of positions for Graduate Assistants each
semester. A GA is a CSUF graduate student who, under immediate
supervision, is appointed part-time to assist faculty teaching
credit-bearing courses or to assist faculty in research
activities.
Duties may include the following:
- assisting in the instruction of students, clarifying course material
or course content for students, leading small discussion groups,
- supervising laboratory periods, workshops, or other course
activities,
- preparing course materials for lecture, laboratory, or field
components of courses,
- assisting the instructor by handling equipment or performing
demonstrations,
- maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact
between student and GA,
- generally assisting faculty in evaluating student work and grading
examinations,
- assisting faculty with field experience, supervision, or simulation
exercises,
- providing assistance to faculty and students conducting authorized
research by collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing data, searching the
literature and compiling bibliographies or literature reviews, operating
and maintaining research equipment, preparing research materials,
assisting in the conduct of laboratory or field experiments, etc., and
- performing other functions requiring knowledge and background beyond
that generally possessed by undergraduate assistants.
Participation in the Laboratory Safety Class offered by
