LSAMP has three tiers of students: research, community college transfer students, and participants. LSAMP serves 30-40 students per year bridging the gap between research faculty and students. Summer and academic year workshops, academic year conferences, research and summer research prepares students for post baccalaureate work.
Eligibility: Currently working on first baccalaureate degree in a STEM discipline, U.S. citizen or permanent residence, and at least a 2.5 GPA. For community college transfer awards, students must have transferred within the last semester and be interested in pursuing a higher degree in a STEM discipline.
Funded by the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities and the National Institutes of Health, this program offers international research training opportunities at universities in the United Kingdom, Thailand and Argentina. The program is open to qualified undergraduate, graduate and health professions students who are from health disparities populations and/or are under-represented in basic science, biomedical, clinical or behavioral health research career fields.
Our research-active faculty have their own funded research programs. All of our undergraduates majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry are required to do senior research, learning the methods of chemical research through a research project under the supervision of one of the Department faculty.
