Research Interests

Dr. Hewitt's research interests focus on 1)lab studies of the kinetics and reaction mechanisms of atmospheric species using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry; and 2) lab studies of tar:  methods of collection and purification, determining the source of archaeological samples (mainly Olmec), the oxidation of tar, and air sampling of tar.
